ISIAQ President's Editorial

A little over 3 months have passed since this BOD has started to serve the Society.

In these past months the work of the BOD focused on the area of creating a more vigorous network and increasing the Society’s visibility. Thanks to the cooperation of ISIAQ members this year the Society will be part of 5 major events of which 2 are held in the US, two in Europe and 1 in China.

These events, in chronological order of occurrence, are:

  • ICT X Satellite Meeting Indoor mold - A new challenge for toxicologists July 10, 2004 to be held in Kuopio (Finland), (President: Prof. Aino Nevalainen);
  • Exploring Emerging Technologies for Exposure Assessment. This is the 14th annual conference of the International Society of Exposure Analysis (ISEA) to be held in Philadelphia, (PA-US), October 17-21, 2004. (Co-Chair: Prof. Junfeng –Jim - Zhang). An ISIAQ Symposium and the ISIAQ’ Annual General Meeting will be held at this conference on October 18th.
  • Symposium on Advanced perspective on Mold Prevention and Control: Assessment and Remediation Approaches to Varying Occupancy/Building Types , to be held in Las Vegas (NV-US), November 7-9, 2004 (Co-Chairs: Prof. Richard Shaughnessy of University of Tulsa, and Eugene Cole, Brigham Young University);
  • The 5th International Conference on Indoor Climate of Buildings 2004, to be held in the High Tatras, Štrbské (Slovakia) on 21-23 November 2004 (President Prof: Duŝan Petráŝ);
  • The 2nd International Conference on Built Environment and Public Health (BEPH2004) to be held in Shenzhen (China), December 6-8, 2004 (Co-President: Prof. Guoqiang Zhang).

Special provisions were made for ISIAQ members attending these events. Over the years, we hope to continue and grow these alliances and opportunities with our members and bring ISIAQ message in many other places.

The ISIAQ Task Force report titled: “Performance Criteria of Buildings for Health and Comfort” has been finalized. The work conducted in this task force was a joint effort with CIB-TG 42. This report will be distributed to all ISIAQ members as part of their 2005 ISIAQ annual membership package.

In particular we are pleased to announce that the 8th International conference of the Society, Healthy Buildings 2006, will be held in Lisbon (Portugal). Professor Eduardo de Oliveira Fernandes will serve as the President of this ISIAQ conference.

Proceedings from Healthy Buildings 2003

The Proceedings from Healthy Buildings 2003 are now available at a reduced price for ISIAQ members. A set of print proceedings: EUR 125 ISIAQ members and EUR 150 non ISIAQ-members. The proceedings are also available CD format. The CD is fully searchable and compatible with both PCs and Macs. CD ROM version: EUR 100 ISIAQ members, EUR 125 non ISIAQ-members.

Interested buyers outside North America please contact the ISIAQ Secretariat to order your copy. (Order form: www.isiaq.org). Interested buyers in North America please contact the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) at: www.aiha.org. It is expected that the Proceedings will be available for shipping within two to four weeks after ordering.

Advanced Perspectives in Mold Prevention & Control: Assessment & Remediation

Approaches to Varying Occupancies/Building Types

ISIAQ is proud to announce its sponsorship of the ‘Advances Perspectives in Mold Prevention & Control’ Symposium to be held on November 7th through 9th, 2004 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program is sponsored by the University of Tulsa and Brigham Young University. The symposium will focus on formulating practical approaches to mold remediation, prevention, and control, relative to varied occupancies and building types: health care facilities, schools and other public buildings, offices, hotels, single and multi-family residences, and resorts and spas.
