Aim and Scope
Task Force was officially formed in 1995. The aim of this Task Force is to introduce and establish a network of communication between interested members of ISIAQ and the museum conservation and facility management community. We will also explore ways in which ISIAQ's expertise in human health, air, material and building science can best be utilized in assisting conservators and administrators working in cultural institutions to more accurately assess and control the concentrations of important pollutants within their institutions

Activities
We are working toward meeting these goals by hosting workshops, by active participation of our members, through publications and through the Internet.

To date, we have held a series of six workshops, designed to introduce interested parties and to explore and prioritize important environmental issues within cultural and heritage institutions, during ISIAQ Indoor Air and Healthy Building conferences around the world (Workshop WS21 on this topic was carried out at Healthy Buildings 2000 Conference in Finland, see their page at www.hb2000.org).

The results of these workshops have led to some very exciting and impressive collaborations and activities. Members of the Task Force are involved in a number of the major engineering societies in the world. For instance, Livio de Santoli and other Task force members will participate in the upcoming Representatives of European Heating and Ventilating Association's (REHVA) Conference CLIMA 2000 to be held in Naples, Italy on September 14th -18th, 2001.

Members are also represented and actively involved with the Indoor Air Pollution in Museums working group (IAP). This group is composed primarily of conservation scientists from around the world. The fourth meeting of this working group will be hosted by The National Museum of Denmark. Professionals working with the indoor climate of museums, such as conservators, curators, engineers, architects and conservation and university scientists, are invited to participate. The meeting will be held on November 8-9, 2001, at The National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen. Task force Co Chair Morten Ryhl-Svendsen has coordinated this conference, which promises to be an excellent opportunity to hear a number of detailed environmental studies that have been performed in cultural and heritage institutions worldwide. The two-day program will include presentations by invited speakers and members and discussions. For more information please visit http://hjem.get2net.dk/ryhl/iap2001/2001_info.htm.

We have also been actively involved with the International Association of Museum Facility Administrators (IAMFA) and have participated in their international conferences over the last six years. For more information on their activities, please visit http://www.IAMFA.org.

We are currently developing for publication a state of the art review on environmental concerns within cultural and heritage institutions. We hope to have a final draft ready for ISIAQ review in early 2002.

Finally, we plan to utilize the newly revised ISIAQ Internet site (www.isiaq.org) to act as a source for links and information regarding the indoor environment in cultural and heritage institutions.

We would be happy to have you join our group and we welcome any type of submission for our Task Force report. We are especially interested in case studies that have been performed within cultural institutions. More importantly, we welcome any interesting pictures, charts or diagrams that may illustrate these important concepts.
